H2-Share's first hydrogen-powered truck hits the road in the Netherlands

With the 27 tonne hydrogen-powered truck built by VDL, we are making a big leap in the development of the zero-emission heavy vehicle industry.

This truck has been tested by BREYTNER and developed by the H2-Share project. To accompany the truck at the demonstration sites, Wystrach GmbH has built a mobile hydrogen refuelling machine with low energy consumption.

The truck will be used by Zero Emission Transport Provider BREYTNER for a period of three months in retail logistics, supplying shops and supply lines for zero emission parcel services. By testing the truck in different types of logistics processes, BREYTNER hopes to contribute to the question where a hydrogen truck can best be deployed. After the demonstration at BREYTNER, the truck will go to one of the other partners for another demonstration.

Evidence from the logistics sector shows a strong growing interest in zero-emission solutions to reduce environmental impact and emissions, which have a negative impact on air quality. In urban areas, zero-emission logistics can be operated by battery-electric trucks. However, their offer is limited. For large heavy vehicles travelling longer distances, electric trucks with a hydrogen gas cell enlarger are an emission-free solution. Such vehicles are not yet commercially available in the EU, but they have enormous potential. H2-Share is designed to unlock this potential.
