Tungsten carbide alternative for hardfacing

Tungsten carbide has been the industry standard for years, but the market is volatile. We are developing a promising tungsten-free alternative. Curious to find out what will replace tungsten carbide?

Tungsten carbide has been the standard in the hardfacing industry for many years, thanks to its extreme resistance to wear. However, the tungsten market is volatile: prices fluctuate sharply and availability is under pressure. This has prompted us to look for alternatives.
At Geurts van Kessel Hardfacing, we are currently developing and testing a promising tungsten-free alternative. The material must not only be equally hard, but also withstand heavy loads and be compatible with our existing hardfacing process. This ensures customers receive the same level of protection without having to make any changes to their processes.
Along the way, we investigated materials such as chromium carbide, molybdenum carbide, titanium carbide and niobium carbide. Each material has its own strengths and limitations. The conclusion: there is no one-size-fits-all solution, only the right material for the right application. That is what we are committed to.
